Workday training for individuals
Workday certification for individuals.
Not part of a Workday customer or implementation partner? You can still earn an official Workday certification. We enrol you directly in Workday’s own training and exams.
What a partner is
We are an official Workday partner, listed on the Workday Marketplace with Innovation, Sales and Services partner badges. That status lets us buy Workday learning credits and enrol you directly in Workday's own training. Workday runs the courses and issues the certification, which is recognised globally.
Who it is for
Workday certification without a sponsoring employer.

Workday certification questions
Is the training and certification official Workday training?
Yes. EvokeHR is an official Workday Partner listed on the Workday Marketplace. We don’t run our own courses. Workday provides all the training, materials, practice exams and the proctored exam, and Workday issues your Workday Pro certification and Credly badge.
Do I need to work for a Workday partner or customer to get certified?
No. That’s what we’re for. Independent professionals, people between roles and people whose employer isn’t a Workday Partner can train through EvokeHR. You join the EvokeHR Workday Learning community and get an EvokeHR email address for your Workday access.
Which certification should I start with?
Most people start with Workday Pro HCM Core, the foundation for most specialist certifications and a prerequisite for many of them (for example, Advanced Compensation requires HCM Core). From there you can specialise in areas such as Payroll, Absence, Time Tracking, Compensation, Recruiting, Reporting, Integrations or Data Loading. Finance professionals usually start with Record to Report.
Prerequisites and credit requirements for every certification are listed in the Workday Training Catalogue, which we send with every enquiry.
Do I need previous Workday experience?
Not for the entry-level certifications such as HCM Core, which have no prerequisites. Specialist certifications may need an earlier certification first. Check the catalogue or ask us.
How is training priced?
Training is bought in Workday Learning Credits, priced in USD. As a long-term partner we get volume discounts and pass them on to you:
- 1 credit: US$800 per credit
- 2–4 credits: US$750 per credit
- 5–8 credits: US$700 per credit
- 9+ credits: US$650 per credit
There are no other fees beyond the credits.
How much does HCM Core certification cost?
The full HCM Core certification is 9 credits: HCM Core for Administrators (4 credits), HCM Core Supplemental for Administrators (4 credits) and the exam (1 credit). At US$650 per credit, that’s US$5,850. It covers the live classes, documentation, practice exams and one exam attempt.
You can sit the exam after the Administrators course alone (5 credits), but in line with Workday’s guidance we recommend both courses, because you only get one attempt at the exam.
Can I buy credits for more than one certification, or for a team?
Yes. Credits across certifications, or across several learners, can be combined to reach a better price tier. Each learner signs their own agreement. We can issue one invoice with itemised lines or separate invoices, whichever you prefer.
Are the courses live or self-paced?
Most Workday Pro courses are live, instructor-led online classes run by Workday trainers. Each course usually runs 4 full days at about 8 hours a day, so HCM Core’s two courses add up to about two weeks of training. They don’t have to run back-to-back.
Courses usually start on a Sunday, Monday or Tuesday, at various times to suit time zones around the world, and you choose the class times that suit you.
Is there a self-paced option?
For some pathways, including HCM Core, Workday offers FlexPath: you get all the course materials and learn on your own without a live trainer, and you still sit the same proctored exam.
FlexPath costs less than instructor-led training, takes more self-discipline and usually takes longer. FlexPath credits have a shorter validity than standard credits.
Can I just sit the exam without doing the training?
Not for a new certification. Workday lists the courses as “optional”, but that’s really meant for people refreshing a certification they already hold. As a Workday Partner we can’t verify your experience, and you’ll be representing EvokeHR in the Workday ecosystem, so we require the official training before a first-time exam. Recertification exams are the exception (see below).
What’s the exam like?
It’s a proctored exam of about two hours, booked through Workday Learning, online or at a test centre. Each enrolment gives you one attempt. The course includes knowledge checks and practice exams, which you can repeat. Most of our learners do plenty of mock exams before booking the real one.
When do I have to sit the exam after my course?
Whenever you’re ready. There’s no deadline after the course, so you can study and do practice exams until you feel confident. The only time limit is that your credits must be used within 18 months of purchase.
How long are credits valid?
Standard Workday training credits expire 18 months after purchase. You have 18 months from buying them to finish your courses and the exam. (FlexPath credits have a shorter validity; see above.)
What if I fail the exam? Are there refunds?
Credits can’t be refunded once we’ve bought them from Workday, including if you fail the exam. To try again you’ll need another exam credit.
How long does certification last, and how do I renew it?
Workday Pro certifications are valid for two years. To stay certified you sit a recertification exam, similar to the original. You don’t need to repeat the course. Each certification you want to keep needs its own recertification exam.
Will I get access to a Workday tenant to practise?
Yes. While you’re learning with us you get access to an EvokeHR Workday training tenant for hands-on practice. Access continues for as long as your learning record stays with EvokeHR.
What support does EvokeHR provide?
We handle the admin: buying your credits, setting up your Workday Learning and Community access, approving your enrolments and raising cases with Workday if something goes wrong (such as an exam not showing for booking).
Workday provides the course content, trainers and practice exams. We don’t offer separate mentoring, tutoring or post-training project support. Our Training Coordinator works 10am–2pm NZ time, Monday to Thursday.
Can I keep my employer’s Workday account while I train?
Yes. Your certification training happens separately in Workday Learning under EvokeHR. If you already have a Workday Learning or Community account through an employer, you can either start a new profile with us and keep your employer account, or move your existing record to EvokeHR. Transferring your account to us will deactivate it with your employer.
Can I transfer certifications I already hold?
Yes. We can move your existing Workday learning record (active, expired or inactive) to EvokeHR so your history stays in one place. We’ll need your Workday Learning (LMS) ID, the name of the company you trained with and your email address there. If your certification has lapsed, we can help you get it back to active with a recertification exam.
Who owns my certification? What happens if I move on?
The certification belongs to you, and it’s held under EvokeHR while you’re part of our learning community. When you move to another employer or partner, you can transfer it by raising a case with Workday and quoting your LMS ID. Your Workday Community access through EvokeHR continues while your certifications are held with us.
Will certification give me implementer access?
The training is the same that implementers take. But implementing Workday modules beyond HCM Core requires being part of a Workday implementation partner, and Workday has strict criteria for this. Some certifications, such as Time Tracking, need an extra course for implementer status. The catalogue sets out the requirements for each pathway.
Can I enrol from outside New Zealand (e.g. India, the UK, the US)?
Yes. Everything is fully remote and online, with classes in many time zones. Pricing is the same in USD wherever you’re based. We invoice by international bank transfer.
How do I sign up?
- Choose your certification(s) using the Workday Training Catalogue, and we’ll confirm the credits and total cost.
- Send us your full address and tell us whether we’re billing you personally or a company.
- We send our Workday Certification Purchase Order Consultancy Agreement by DocuSign for you to sign, along with an invoice for your credits.
- Once payment arrives, we buy your credits from Workday (this can take up to 5 working days), set up your EvokeHR email, Workday Learning and Community access, and help you enrol.
How soon can I start?
Workday needs enrolments at least 7 days before a course starts. With onboarding and payment on top, allow about a week and a half from signing to your first class.
Can I attend Workday Rising, or get Rising exam pricing, through EvokeHR?
No. Rising tickets are expensive (several thousand euros) and attendance needs Workday’s own approval. Training and certification through EvokeHR is separate from Rising.
Can EvokeHR help me find Workday work after I’m certified?
Certification doesn’t come with a job. Our sister company Evoke Talent places Workday contractors, and we’re happy to add your CV to our database for suitable opportunities.
